Seas of Memory & Oblivion

Memory builds us; our identity is based on memories. But when these begin to fade, what happens to us? What are we? Who are we?

The project navigates the waters of memory, immersed in the fog of oblivion. When we access sensorial memory through visual images, gaps occur. These glitches seduce us to fill in what we don't know and to create 'collage memories'. We are constructed from memory, but how fictitious is that construction? When I see a photograph of myself as a child, I deduce that it's me. I access a memory of that moment, even if I'm not sure what I was thinking or feeling. Yet, I remember myself through the context of the image, through those windows, through that chair, little details that let me know it's me. But what would happen if I saw a photo of a little boy identical to me, but without context? Could I remember that moment? Would it be a fictional memory? Would it be me?

The images are blurred, striped - whitewashed like memory by time. They give a sense of lost identities. Distant times intertwined with the present, a convergence of sensations and memories.

You are invited to embark on a boat and sail these waters. Can you feel the tide of memory?
